Frequently Asked Questions

How do I pick the right phone?
Start by searching for your Carrier (AT&T, Verizon, etc).

Used AT&T Cell Phones
Used Verizon Cell Phones
Used T-Mobile Cell Phones

The best phone for you is one that was made for your specific carrier. Most phones will only work for one carrier.

After that, a few questions will narrow it down – or just use our navigation links:

  • Do you use your phone for EVERYTHING? – check out our Smartphones
  • Do you text as much as talk? – click on our Texting Phones

Are the phones “Unlocked”?
All of our phones are ready to activate with their matching carrier (Sprint, T-Mobile, etc), GUARANTEED, and some are ready to go for multiple carriers. Unlocked means a lot of different things in the cell phone world. Phones that use “GSM” technology can be “unlocked” so they work on any GSM network. These networks include AT&T and T-Mobile in the US, Rogers in Canada, and all carriers in Europe. If you have a SIM card, you need a GSM phone (Except for Nextel – they use SIM cards, but for iDen, not GSM). If you do not use a SIM card (Verizon, Sprint, Alltel, US Cellular etc) then you must get a phone made specifically for your carrier; otherwise they will not activate it. These carriers use CDMA technology. There is no such thing as a CDMA unlocked phone. GSM phones are not compatible with CDMA phones and vise versa. Most people looking for an unlocked phone are really looking for a phone that is guaranteed to activate with their carrier, which all of our phone are guaranteed to do! Confused – no worries, just be sure to search for phones for your carrier or Click on our CHAT box.

Is an unlocked phone better?
If you are planning on switching to another GSM carrier (AT&T, T-Mobile, etc) or planning on moving overseas soon, then maybe it is. If you really like a model that is offered from another GSM carrier but not yours, yes it is. But for almost everyone, unlocked phones are either not an option, or extra work for no advantage. Unlocked phones may have software that does not match your carrier, making it impossible to send picture messages or go to the web not to mention possible billing problems. While you may be able to convince your carrier to “flash” their software on your phone, getting a phone for your carrier in the first place avoids all this.

Will my carrier activate the phone?
Yes, guaranteed. NO CARRIER CHARGES TO ACTIVATE A PHONE. If you have a SIM card (AT&T, T-Mobile, etc) then all you have to do is put it in and your phone is ready to go. If you lost your SIM card, then you can order one from us and call your carrier to activate it, for free. If your carrier does not use SIM cards (Sprint, Alltel, etc.) then just call them and give the number on the back of the phone and they will make this phone your phone, for free. If for ANY reason your phone does not work with your carrier, we can replace or refund for 30 days. (Some US Cellular regions charge $15 to activate).

Why is a used phone better?
Unlike a car, electronics have no wear. All of our phones work perfectly, every feature, every button, everything. The only part that is really used is the cosmetic housings, and we give a detailed description for each phone. In keeping with our business model, we avoid needlessly replacing housings just to improve cosmetics. Most of our phones look like a new phone will in a few months.
